GIIS Malaysia is an Indian international school founded under the guidelines of the Global Schools Foundation. It’s known for its student-centric and skill-based curricula. It promotes a strong multicultural environment, which is a reflection of the diverse nature of its student population.

Here are some of the things that parents need to know about the school.

Admissions

Gaining admissions into this international school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is simple and straightforward. Admissions are open all year long, and academic years start in April each year. Registration, however, opens from August with applications being reviewed in January by the admissions board.

  • First, you apply online at mygiis.org by filling the form, and submitting all the required documentation.
  • Next is counseling and assessment, where you are invited to visit the campus and have a talk with the admissions counselor who will answer any questions you have.  They will also guide you on how to proceed with the admissions process.
  • At this point, your child may have to take an assessment test aimed at gauging their academic preparedness.
  • Lastly, you will be required to pay a one-time registration fee to complete the process. After which a seat is guaranteed for your child.

The registration fees vary depending on which grade the child is admitted to. K1, K2, standard 11 and 12 pay RM 3,061, while standard 1 to 10 pay RM 6,735. Learners can register at any time during the year except those seeking admissions into CBSE and Cambridge classes 11 and 12.

Holistic learning

GIIS strives to offer a holistic education to its students. It employs the 9GEMS model, a proprietary tool that’s aimed at delivering a holistic education. This model takes a comprehensive approach towards facilitating the creation of an all-rounded character and learning opportunities for its students. The 9GEMS include fostering:

● Academic excellence, collaborative and project-based learning

● Sports health and fitness excellence

● Digital and visual arts

● Personality development, speech, and drama

● Creativity, innovation and problem-solving

● Entrepreneurship and leadership development

● Developing universal values, ethics, and discipline

● Fostering community connection, care, and conservation

● Providing life skills, career, and vocational compromises.

The model balances academic development with personality development by teaching values, encouraging excellence in sports, performing arts, leadership qualities, and entrepreneurship, instilling ethics, discipline, and the spirit to serve.

The academics and extracurriculars are designed to give students an enriching learning opportunity to develop their overall selves and personalities. The 9 gems model acts as a catalyst for delivering this holistic education experience to kids across all school levels.

Scholarships

The school contributes to the educational needs of its students through various programs such as the Merit-Vum-Means scholarship. Through it, GIIS extends financial aid and aims to make education more affordable. This scholarship is aimed at both GIIS and non-GIIS students who are Malaysian residents across all grades.

Scholarships range anywhere between 15 to 80 percent, and the fee waiver is applicable for all fees, excluding bus fees and miscellaneous costs. Students must come from a moderate-income family and provide academic records for the last 2 years; however, this only applies to non-GIIS students. Parents must also provide income statements for the past two years.
