The book, Us vs Them by Ian Bremmer speculates and warns how globalization had led to environmental deterioration.  Globalization has continued to accentuate the massive environmental harm that we are facing now, even though it is only partially responsible. Any national, regional, and foreign strategies have mitigated the detrimental impact of globalization on the climate. Any explanations can also be found in the globalization processes themselves. But although it is important, there is still a shortage of political legislation and incentives relative to the breadth and urgency of the tasks ahead.

ALARMING CONCERNS

For several years, the planet has been singing a sweet, hopeful song about the gains of globalization. Pundits like the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman recognized the cascading advantages of an inherently interlinked society and little regard for its unequal benefits as discussed in the book, Us Vs Them. Recently, a few influential lawmakers and academics in the West have publicly expressed their opposition to the siren song of globalism. Despite living in a society that is constantly interwoven, the rising gap between the winners of globalization and the losers is widening. These so-called losers are becoming more vocal, particularly now that they have a major influence on the developing world. Now they’re all starting to hear Pink’s refrain! The recent publication of “What About Us?” “They ask, “What about us? What about all the preparations that ended up in a disaster? ”

DISRUPTION CAUSED BY NEOLIBERAL ECONOMY SYSTEM

Recognizing these cries as a result of heightened anxiety and anger over social, fiscal, and political uncertainty, Ian Bremmer acknowledges the losers of globalism. In his latest book, Us vs. Them: The Failure of Globalism, he tells the story of those left behind by the innovative disruption of a fast-paced neoliberal economy.

Bremmer has every excuse to grow up to believe in globalism. As a young boy he was told, “If you want to be successful, you just have to study hard and work hard. It’s totally up to you.” So he did. Raised by a single mother, he went on to earn a Ph.D. and start up his own business, the Eurasia Party. His work on risk reduction and previous books supported the globalist framework. What has improved for Bremmer? What was the impact of his optimism on globalism?

Bremmer recognizes the implicit differences between races, ethnicities, and nationalities by acknowledging the amplifying rage of those who feel abandoned, lied to, or that their hard work and commitment will never be enough. Repeating a theme from his previous works, Bremmer sees several warning signs, explains how the development of winners and losers by globalism heightens all of us vs. their mentalities, promoting the formation of many kinds of protective walls.

RISING DISTRUST OF THE MASSES

In some of these developed countries, Bremmer reveals how globalism promotes distrust and mistrust as the wealthy get richer and the poor get poorer.

The book Us vs Themhighlights the lack of confidence in government in most of the twelve developed countries. 11 out of 12 are directly unhappy with political governance; India is the only country to be studied where this division is not prevalent.

Providing a flickering light at the end of the tunnel, Bremmer assumes that the shortcomings of globalism will be reversed if the social contracts between governments and their people are rewritten. What will be expected to correct these contracts? What does the new future look like?

AI caused job displacement is a huge shake-up of the minority community, and the solutions Bremmer suggests would rescue just a minority of the minority world. This comes to the core challenge of Bremmer’s novel, which is the difference between the problems he outlines and the remedies he proposes. As pointes out in Us vs Them ,Bremmer’s analysis of the failure of globalism is worthy of reflection in terms of both IR teaching and scholarship, but his analysis of the prospects for progress needs to be greatly broadened.
